The folks over at Outdoor Channel are pretty much in awe of the Polaris XP 900 — and with good reason — so when they asked all the big players in the aftermarket UTV parts industry to build their own version of the car (with the code name Project X) just about everybody was onboard, including DragonFire Racing!

The idea was to have each aftermarket company install as many of their goodies on their own Polaris XP 900. Outdoor Channel camera crews would film the build and subsequent test runs. The film would then be included in upcoming segments of Destination Polaris, a television program that showcases all-terrain vehicles in their natural environment — which is, of course, outdoors in the wild and definitely off-road.

DragonFire Racing's Polaris RZR XP 955

DragonFire Racing was happy to participate, but what we did was take a slight detour. We decided that if we were going to build-out an RZR XP, we were going to build one that practically anyone with even a modicum of mechanical ability could put together in a home garage or backyard shed. And we wanted to build this Polaris quickly. How quickly? Like in only three days. Like in, so fast we decided to name our vehicle Project XP 955. Yeah. That fast.

We’ve got to give special thanks and a nod of admiration for the Ron Shara Productions film crew (Jared and Nick), who stuck it out with us for three days in 100-plus degree heat in a shop with no air conditioning or fans (because of noise pollution concerns). And the minute we were finished building our DFR version, these two camera dudes hopped in and drove for an hour to shoot some riding for the Outdoor Channel show.

Three days to install all the equipment listed below is phenomenal. Our crew, led by Nick Stienman, lead technician, and Seth Bredesen, design engineer and chief of Research & Development, worked their butts off to meet a self-imposed deadline. And one thing’s for sure: We didn’t go the Extreme Makeover route. Every part is expertly and perfectly installed. No patchwork installation here. Our crews figure the average semi-mechanically minded Joe — doing the job themselves at home — could tack on another two or three days to successfully complete this build.

DragonFire's Scott Highland takes center stage.

Nevertheless, we had a blast putting this Polaris XP together in a rapid fashion. The finished beast was on display at this week’s Polaris Dealer Show in Nashville, and it will also be a highlight at the 2011 Sand Sport Super Show in Costa Mesa, Calif., come Sept. 16-18.

You can also see us on Destination Polaris (on Outdoor Channel), which airs at 5 and 9:30 p.m. EST every Monday night, and at 2 a.m. EST on Tuesdays. Original airings of DragonFire Racing’s contribution will appear on Aug. 8, 15, 22 and 29, as well as Sept. 5 and 12. Repeat airings can be seen on Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28; and Dec. 5 and 12.

Besides heavy-duty winches, Warn designs, manufactures and markets a full line of off-road equipment and accessories that only add to the performance of four-wheel-drive, ATV’s and utility vehicles (and it’s all done right here in the USA – Warn Industries is based out Clackamas, Oregon).

So last February, we joined forces to come up with a badass Can-Am Commander that was built for off-road shows and ride events all over the country. Where DFR comes into the picture was the addition of our Can-Am Commander cage, which insured safety as well as added style. And, of course, we had to add some power in the form of a DragonFire ¾-exhaust system by Yoshimura. Using our bolt-on, off-the-shelf products, we came up with one of the cooler Commanders we’ve ever seen.

But the best part of working hand-in-hand with Warn Industries is the fact that they really like to test their cars. What that means for us is we get to see our equipment in action. Dirty action, because the boys at Warn drive their test vehicles — hard.

And if a photo of a muddy road warrior is worth a thousand words, check the shots in this post. This car features our DragonFire four-point restraints; DragonFire Plus 6 Can-Am Commander long travel kit; and our Can-Am cage.

Combining forces with Warn Industries proved to be a winning combination that benefits both off-road builders. Just point us in the direction of the nearest vertical-incline mud trail and we’ll be all over it.

Once again, a valued partner sends us a stock vehicle and asks us to create a one-of-a-kind, out-of-this-world show-mobile that will knock the socks off of convention- and expo-goers throughout the land. And once again we made our partner proud. John Deere, the leading manufacturer of agricultural machinery in the world, has been coming to DragonFire Racing for several years now, seeking original equipment products for its limited-edition extreme utility vehicles.

Just last fall, we created the John Deere Tail Gator and the John Deer Race Gator, two concept utility vehicles designed to launch the new triple-cylinder 850 Gator XUV developed by Deere & Company, a.k.a., John Deere.

This time around, John Deere approached us to build the John Deere Drive Green Gator, a fully customized Gator 825i XUV that the company plans to trot out at its dozens of dealer expo shows this year. The exhibition also coincides with the John Deere “Drive Green” marketing campaign. This utility beastie will be taken on the road and eventually raffled off to one lucky individual at the end of the road show. (For details on the giveaway, visit the John Deere Drive Green Gator Giveaway page.)

We based this particular build off our original John Deere Tail Gator projects from the past, but we put a new spin on it. This Gator 825i has been dubbed the “John Deere Drive Green Gator” and was fully customized by the DFR team with help from Mobile Solutions.

Just take a look at what this customized 825i Gator XUV has to offer:

Custom-fabricated roll cage and speaker box housing (similar to what we did for the Tail Gator build).

Rockford Fosgate-sponsored sound system (with enough speakers, sub-woofers and amplifiers to melt the wax in your ears).

Mixing board with its own P.A. system.

Two back-to-back, 47-inch LED/LCD TV’s mounted on a roll cage behind the driver’s seat.

Built-in iPad.

Built-in Xbox 360.

DVI plug-in port for PowerPoint presentations on the television screens.

Built in Webber grill with John Deere Logo.

Custom-built in-bed panels for the grill housing.

Built-in generator to power this beast.

Custom “Drive Green” graphics wrap.

We had a blast putting this green machine together, so be sure to visit the site above and take a look at the road show route. Or type in your city and let the John Deere web site do the searching for you.

Keep an eye out for more products and accessories from DFR for the JD Gator family.

In past years, Staples Center has provided elevator access for skateboarders pushing off from to the top of the 80-foot-5-inch-tall Mega Ramp. The Coliseum has no such vertical convenience, which left X Games organizers scrambling for a solution to their high-rise transportation problem.

Enter DragonFire Racing, which was approached by ESPN and CA Ramp Works and asked to build custom shuttle vehicles that could transport athletes up a 26-degree transport ramp. That’s a steep order — literally — for anyone to fill, especially on short notice.

With the games fast approaching, DFR consulted on the design of the 26-degree shuttle ramp, then we got busy designing two custom shuttle vehicles. We named these specialty vehicles “X Games Mega Ramp Shuttles,” and you’ll be able to see them at the event, on ESPN and in the pits all next week. The 16th edition of X Games gets underway Wednesday, July 28, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 1.

The two X Games Mega Ramp Shuttles are designed to carry two athletes at a time back up the steep ramp, and they can do it in a hurry. Because of the fast-paced nature of this event, it’s imperative that athletes are able to return to the top quickly.

We designed these two climbers as custom personnel haulers, each with a custom canopy cage, a custom rear-facing seat with a footrest and wheelie bar, a DFR Long Travel suspension system and a bicycle rack on the front. DFR engineers began work on the two custom vehicles on July 12, and put the finishing touches on the shuttles last Friday.

Just in time for X Games 16, which will again focus on extreme-action sports that will be telecast live to more than 382 million homes in 175 countries. Where’s the director? These two DFR shuttles are ready for their close up.

As the Side-by-Side industry grows, it grows attention. Attention is coming from new sponsors, manufacturers, and drivers. Short course racing has brought a lot of attention to the Side By Side market, and the close racing amongst manufacturers and drivers continues to bring new and talented people into the sport.
Larry Roeseler not only brings talent and positive attention to our sport but a personality that is approachable and a fan base that stretches many generations. Larry is a recognized motorcycle racer with ten overall wins in the Baja 1000, nine overalls at the Baja 500, ten I.S.D.E. Gold Medals and has been inducted into the American Motorcycle Association’s Hall of Fame. Not stopping in his two-wheel winning ways, Larry took to four wheels in 1995 and has since added three more Baja 1000 overalls and also two more Baja 500s, not to mention numerous championships and class wins along the way.
Larry has been a Kawasaki Team Green Rider for 18 years, and continues to be a spokesman for the company. His ability to not only improve a vehicle but to continue its development is what makes this new racing team so exciting. DragonFire Racing has spent the last six months designing this car for Larry, and has made it the most advanced race car on the track.
“I am a very lucky man, being involved in so many different projects over the years, and now this with DragonFire Racing-I’m very excited,” said Roeseler. “I can’t wait for everyone to see this car and team at the LOORS races. It’ll turn some heads, and trust me, we’ll win some races.”
The Teryx Larry will be driving will set a standard for the Side by Side industry and will only help to grow and improve the products that we see available at the manufacturer and aftermarket accessory levels. The DragonFire Team Green Teryx has specifically designed to allow the suspension to provide over 17 inches of wheel travel but still meet the width requirement set forth in the LOORS rules. To handle the 120 horsepower developed by the DFR Teryx motor, the car will have 14-inch ITP tires on all four corners. Type 1 rear axles and CVs with inboard hubs and disc brakes were developed to accommodate the horsepower and CV angle. Developments in the steering system include new front steer spindles, custom racks, quick steer and a steering damper. All-new A-arms were designed, with 24-inch Fox shocks mounted to the lower arms both front and rear, keeping the roll center of the car as low as possible. Fox designed all-new shocks with 8-inch remote reservoirs for increased cooling capacity, as well as larger-diameter shock bodies and shock shafts to enhance the increased travel. A hanging racing billet brake pedal with a remote reservoir was developed to provide more space in the driving compartment. Race Pack created a digital dash that displays RPM, speed, water and oil temperatures and oil pressure, as well as shock temperature, allowing the driver to manage all the key functions of the vehicle.
All these products and more will make it to market and be available for the weekend racer or warrior. It is products like these that will put DragonFire Racing and Kawasaki on the podium and on your car.

Corona, California (April 16, 2009) – The exciting, side by side, door banging action of UTV racing will make its Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series debut in Surprise, Arizona on May 2nd and 3rd. Through an agreement finalized this week, the UTV Classes will be presented by UTV aftermarket industry leader Dragonfire Racing. This agreement will allow Pro UTV Racers to race for an attractive purse each weekend while contending for the Dragonfire UTV World Cup Trophy and year-end Championship Purse. “I’m excited to see UTVs in the huge arena of short course racing,” stated President and Founder of Dragonfire Racing, Todd Romano. “This gives us a great opportunity to work with the teams that race while also reaching out to the UTV community that utilizes our products. The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series provides a large venue to feature these vehicles. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.”
